IMPORTANT: From March 2nd, 2020, citizens of The United Kingdom are not required to apply for an electronic visa to enter Turkey. British Citizens travelling to Turkey for tourist or business purposes are able to travel without a visa for visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
If you plan to remain in Turkey for a period of more than 90 days, you should either apply for a longer stay visa before you travel, or get a residence permit from the local authorities in Turkey before your 90 day stay has elapsed. If you intend to work in Turkey, ensure you have the correct permits. More information is available from the Turkish Ministry of the Interior. If you do not abide by the terms of your visa or permit, you may be fined, deported and banned from re-entering the country.
The majority of passengers from European countries, including Germany, can travel to Turkey without a visa. The same applies to nationals of Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. In most cases, it is even possible to enter Turkey without using a passport – only an ID card is required. In most cases, visitors from the previously mentioned countries will be entitled to stay in Turkey for up to 90 days within any 6-month or 12-month period. For visitors from Belgium, Norway, Austria and Great Britain, other entry requirements apply. Nationals from these countries must apply for a visa before visiting. This can be done by contacting the Turkish Foreign Ministry in their country of departure. As a general rule, such visas are issued immediately, but the agency can issue such a visa up to 48 hours before the date of travel. A visa is usually checked online, but it is recommended that you carry an electronic copy or printout of your visa confirmation. Alternatively, visitors can use an e-visa. This way, you can apply for a visa at the moment of travel and entry.
